We're here!

It has been an incredibly busy couple of weeks. We've moved from Pensacola, FL and are now settling into our new home in Hubert, NC which is just outside of Jacksonville. So far we really like it. It started off a bit of a nightmare since the first time we saw the inside of the house was the day we moved in, but its coming along. The people that lived here before us just destroyed it, so repairs are still being made. But once its finished, it will be great! They just finished putting hardwood floors in all the bedrooms and it looks wonderful. We're having new counter tops installed in the kitchen as well. I'm so excited to see the finished product! We're kind of in the sticks, but thats how we like it. Its nice and and quiet, and is definitely a small town. We aren't far from the coast, and some of the coastal towns around here are just beautiful. We're close enough to Jacksonville to run errands easily, but far enough to not have to deal with all the traffic and congestion. The base is huge. NAS Pensacola seems like a tiny blip on the map compared to Camp Lejeune. And instead of the Blue Angels shaking my windows, we now have the sound of mortar rounds and .50 cals, which Andrew thinks is awesome!

Speaking of Andrew, he started at his new school this week. He really seems to like it! He had his own personal tour guide on his first day, which he thought was pretty cool! The school is one of the best in the county and really seems great. Its not too big or crowded and is in a really nice little town. They have sports teams, although the current season is just about finished so unfortunately he missed out on that. He mentioned he might want to try baseball in the spring, which should be fun! He's already making friends and seems to be fitting in well. As I've said before, he amazes me with his ability to adapt!

Braxton is also doing great! He has his first tooth! I think we got lucky because he never seemed bother by it at all. Hopefully it will be smooth sailing when the rest of them come in! I think I mentioned before we've started him on solids. He's been eating oatmeal for about a month or so. We've just started him on veggies. He's only had green beans so far, but he absolutely loves them. I'm going to give him some sweet peas today and see how he does with them. I'm not going to rush it...I'm trying to follow his lead, but I'm excited for him to try new foods! And he seems to be as well! He's really developed such a funny little personality and he is such a joy!

Matt left for FMTB last night, which is training that will basically teach him to do everything the Marines do while also giving medical care in combat. Its right up his alley. It lasts 8 weeks, but he will eventually be able to come home on the weekends, so it won't be too terrible. I still really miss him though! This will be the first time I'll have Braxton totally on my own, but I know I can handle it. Andrew is a HUGE help and adores his baby brother, so in turn its a huge help to me. Matt also re-enlisted right before we left Pensacola. It really was an honor to see and be apart of. He is an asset to the Navy and is SO good at what he does. I truly believe he is doing what God put him here to do. He has a lot of people that are proud of him. I personally could not be prouder!

There aren't many exciting things going on with me personally. I'm just trying to get the house in order and organized. I am really enjoying the area we're in. I'm already planning little things to do with the boys while Matt is gone. There are a lot of little coastal towns and festivals that go on so there isn't a shortage of things to do. I like exploring new areas, so it should be fun! I'm also back on Facebook, although you'll still have to come here for pictures and updates on the boys. Although I haven't figured out how to post videos through this site yet, so a few of them may end up on Facebook still. There are too many great friends I want to keep in contact with through there, and I'm not going to let a few bad seeds spoil it for everyone else.

Now that we're finished with the move and have our internet up and running it should be easier to keep everyone updated, but I'm still not ready to make any guarantees yet. Keep checking in!

I need to get more pictures that include Matt, Andrew, and myself. I'm really horrible about that. Braxton is the only one who is constantly within reach of the camera :)

  1. Hey Becky,

I just saw your blog. Glad to hear the move to NC wasn't too bad. It sounds like your house is coming along nicely as well.

You aren't too far from me (I live in Durham)...maybe if you are out my way or I am out you way we can get together? My e-mail address is pamela.m.porter@gmail.com.

    Take care!
